Here is my evaulationon the broadcast element for 161mc. It can also be found on my blog and www.bronson666.wordpress.com
When first taking on the project I was not overall thrilled with it. I’d never done a live studio broadcast so I didn’t know what to expect. As the project developed I started to get more and more interested. The reason I applied for the director position is because I felt that had a lot to offer could steer the project in the right direction. I feel this is apparent in our final video as I took a very hands on approach to my position. So when looking back at the project I am very pleased with the overall outcome. I’m not saying our finished artefact is perfect by no means, when looking back I can see the flaws in it, such as a couple of spelling mistakes on graphics and out VT’s being slightly out but I am proud to say I was a member of that group and we worked well together as a team which I also feel comes across in the video. Looking back I’m pleased with how everything turned out, I wouldn’t change any of how our project was ran because it was very efficient. With all this in mind I have learned that in order to make a great show it’s all about team work. I will take this on board and apply what I have learned through out the module to future projects. now I’m going to look at each individual group member and reflect on why our project was such a success.
Producer Dan Atkinson: Dan was the clue to this whole project. He kept a tight ship and was always punctual and enthusiastic about the project. he kept the group well-informed and always kept me in check when it came to my role, without him I do not think the project would have run as smooth, he knows his stuff when it came to it and I’m very thankful to him for putting so much time and effort into the project.
Floor Manager Micheal Abley: Micheal was my go to guy on the studio floor and always delivered when it came to instructions. He had good communication with the whole group and kept everybody in line if every needed. He was always punctual and would get stuck in with every aspect of the project which made him really good at his job.
P.A. Jess Dash: Jess was my right hand in the gallery and fed me all my information when it came to the running order of the show. She was very punctual and always turned up to sessions. She was well spoken and a valued member of the team and always made good suggestions when I needed help with things.
Studio Sound Scott Cowley: Scott was another really good member of the team. He took his job role on with great enthusiasm and always kept me in the loop when it came to sound. He had a few issues with the sound but he always over came them and delivered a good standard of work.
Graphic Design Dean Atkinson: Dean was always fun to work with and delivered a good standard of work. Although not entirely happy with his role at first he buckled down and delivered the good. he used his equipment well and produced a good standard of graphic design for the show.
Vision Mixer James Dove: James always followed my introduction and always knew what he was doing, he was punctual and a good member of the team also, always hit his marks with minor slip ups.
Auto que/Set design Amrit Bhachu: Had a few issues with Amrit at the start of the project, but she proved a valued member of the team and played an important role in the gallery and studio. Even though she did not come up with the initial idea for the set she was always willing and more that capable to perform tasks, she also played an important part in the projects fluidity and was very punctual.
Lighting Dan Betham: Never had any problems with Dan. He always kept me well-informed regarding lighting and performed all his task’s with a great deal of ease, missed the odd session but did inform us of absences and really got stuck in when he was needed.
VT Manager Vanessa Busia: Poor attendance, lack of enthusiasm. She was there at the beginning and at the end, but she didn’t really take her role too seriously and even though her reasons for not being there sometimes where valid, she still never informed the group. However when she did turn up she did do het job to a reasonable standard.
Camera 1 Matt Burns: Always punctual, always there and offered good suggestion when it came to camera work, really knew his way around the camera and listened to all direction. He also offered me shots I needed on a constant basis.
Camera 2 Adam D’souza: Very punctual and always listened, made suggestions on his camera work and delivered on the day
Camera 3 Helena Brothwick: Same as camera 1, offered a great range of shots, punctual and always listened to the gallery, really impressed with her camera work and a valued member of the team.
Runner 1 Aaron Cawrey: Aaron was very punctual and always was there when he was needed, he was a good runner but also he took other roles in the production. When people were missing from the shoot Aaron often stepped in and took on the roles with a great deal of enthusiasm.
Runner 2 Char Bacciochi: Char missed a few sessions here and there without informing the group but when she was there she listened well and took her job role seriously.
Runner 3 Mohinda Bhachu: In all honesty I didn’t even know he was in our group, he turned up 2 rehearsals before the big day, but he did try to commit to the group as much as possible and was more than willing to get stuck in.
Director Thomas Barnes
Now I’ve evaluated my teams efforts during our project it’s only fair I take a look at my own performance. When looking back over the project I feel that in some areas I was good and some I was bad. My strengths were defiantly my people skills. I treated every one as equal, know matter what their role and I felt like I communicated with everybody really well. Looking at the way I handled my crew I can defiantly take this on board and apply it to future projects. Another of my strengths I feel was getting stuck into most roles, I always tried to be part of the action. As well as being director I took a part in set design, Vt management and various other roles. I did this because I wanted to get involved as much as I can and let the group no I cared about the project. In future projects I will do this again no matter what my role so I can show people who I’ve got what it takes to be a team player. One more strength I would consider is generally being a good Director. I researched the roles of a Director and I understood that It was just about throwing your weight around, but more understanding your team you are working with. I always listened and was always ready to take new ideas on board and I feel that this really gave a good backbone to our piece. Now looking at my weaknesses during my role I would have to say my Main one was fear. I was often nervous about the outcome of certain things and I felt a lot of pressure through out the project due to time. However due to our producer being good at his job this took pressure off me which enabled me to do my job to the best of my abilities. In future I need to understand more what I’m letting myself in for and not let pressure get to me. Another weakness I would consider was miss communication. By this I mean sometimes I felt that when my group was making suggestions to me, sometimes my head was so full of other stuff it either wouldn’t go in or I did not quite understand what they meant. This is hard for me to say how I would overcome it but I guess in future I need to learn to take things onboard better and take things one step at a tim. My final weakness I would say s that near the beginning I had a few issues with making it in on time but I sorted this out immediately as I knew that the project was too important to be late for.
So with a year of media finished and a lot of things under my belt I guess what ive learned from this module is that the most important thing in media is to make sure you leave your mark in any project you become part of in order to create impact.
